Choosing to not install the WD SmartWare software

You can choose to not install the WD SmartWare™ software that is on your drive. However, if you do not install the software, the following features are not available:

• Automatic file backup
• Automatic file retrieval from your drive
• Security settings—you cannot create a password for your drive to protect your data (encrypted drives only)
• Diagnostic testing
• Drive labeling and personalization (LCD display, available only on My Book Elite, My Book Studio, and My Passport Studio drives)

Note: The WD SmartWare software installs the SES driver to ensure proper drive operation with your computer regardless of whether you install the software or not.
