Changing or removing your password

Use the Your Drive is Secure dialog to change or remove your password.

To change your password:

  1. Type your current password in the Password box.
  2. Select the Change password option.
  3. Type your new password in the New password box, using up to 25 characters.
  4. Retype your new password in the Verify password box.
  5. Type a hint to help remember your password in the Password hint box.
  6. Select or clear the Remember my password on this computer check box to signify whether you want the WD SmartWare™ software to remember your password on this computer.

    Note: This function remembers the password for your currently logged on user name. If you log on as a different user, you will have to type your password and repeat this selection.

  7. Click Update Security Settings to change your password.

CAUTION! After changing your password, the drive remains unlocked for as long as you continue your current work session. Then the WD SmartWare software:

To remove your password:

  1. Type your password in the Password box.
  2. Select the Remove security option.
  3. Click Update Security Settings to remove password protection from your drive and display the Set Security dialog.
